Jiří Havelka: The Tragedy of Liblice
The mysterious crime story The Tragedy of Liblice in which nationwide medium-wave broadcasts were shut down, an event that also affected the Liblice transmitter, the largest terrestrial transmitter in Central Europe. The VOSTO5 theater company has long made no secret of its fondness for radio. This is also the inspiration behind the mysterious crime drama, set on New Year’s Eve 2022.

How will the radio technicians on duty that night deal with the fact that the disconnected equipment is still transmitting and receiving signals? What, to whom, and why?
A team of radio technicians must head out into the field to try, with the help of an experienced detective, to unravel the greatest mystery of our airwaves—the interconnection of spacetime and energy flows—and they stumble upon a fascinating discovery entirely by chance.

Director Jiří Havelka adapted the drama set along the route between Vinohradská 12 and Liblice in Central Bohemia from the stage to radio.
He worked alongside composer and sound designer Marin Hůla, members of the VOSTO5 theater company, and with the support of more than two dozen other actors, including actual Czech Radio hosts and editors. The premiere was broadcast by Český rozhlas Vltava on New Year’s Eve 2025.
