Wetland Techno

13. srpen 2026

The radio documentary Lužní techno connects the natural world of South Moravia’s floodplain forests with a personal and artistic quest to establish a connection through sound and music. It follows Tomáš Šenkyřík as he records in the field and during the subsequent post-production in the studio, capturing how he collects and composes the sounds of nature with humility and deep fascination.

Set against the backdrop of excursions to wetlands and even the front yard of a house in Židlochovice, an ecological sense of sorrow over vanishing biodiversity resonates.

Recordings of nature—from photosynthesis to the bubbling of underwater life to the morning song of the great reed warbler—are not merely a documentary record of what we normally overlook, but also serve as a source of sonic inspiration for further work.

The documentary also follows the process of transforming these field recordings into electronic music.

Through the collaboration between father Tomáš and son Prokop, the chirping, melodies, and ambient sounds from the field blend with ambient and club beats, creating a unique dialogue between techno and the landscape. Here, music is not in opposition to nature but becomes its extension—a means of deep listening, meditation, and physical experience.

Lužní Techno is a sonic portrait of Tomáš Šenkyřík, the South Moravian floodplains, and humanity’s relationship with nature. But it is also a reflection on what music is, the significance of silence, and how recording—and by extension, listening—can be a form of creative, contemplative engagement with the world. The audio documentary features compositions by Tomáš Šenkyřík from the albums Pulse Wave, Jaro, and Voda, as well as other unreleased field recordings.
