Foreigners are arriving in the border region near the D5 highway in unprecedented numbers and, in many places, outnumber the native population. A typical example is Nová Hospoda near Tachov, which employs around 8,000 people. In Tachov, immigrants make up nearly one-third of the population.

"I go to the store and don’t hear any Czech. It used to be a beautiful, peaceful city; now we feel like strangers in our own city," she adds. She’s also bothered by the fact that her young daughter has no one to play with: "You won’t find a single Czech mom at the playground. I feel like it’s an injustice."
