ZAD. Portrait of a Battle
Based on the example of the development of the French autonomous movement which has been protesting the construction of an airport in a rare wetland area near Notre Dame des Landes in the western tip of France since the 1960's, an area that was almost destroyed in 2018, the author exposes difficulties tied to the creation of temporary autonomous zones.
She examines the conditions for the creation of such a movement as well as the events that led to its breakdown. The question is why communal and autonomous movements need a mutual enemy and what happens when the enemy disappears.
