The Son

5. říjen 2022

A play about the difficulties of growing up, about the unique relationship between father and son, about the search for security after the break-up of a parents’ marriage.

The story is based on a situation that we know in many variations from our environment or our own private lives - one of the spouses leaves the original family and builds a new relationship with a new child.

In the original play by French playwright Florian Zeller, the father’s departure for a younger partner has a fatal impact on the teenage son. Nicolas gradually loses interest not only in school and his peers, but in the world in general. Although everyone involved has the best will to manage the crisis and help the boy, they cannot prevent the tragedy.

Zeller’s play convincingly shows how difficult it can be for even the closest family members to read the signs of a child’s incipient depression and psychological crisis. And how easy it is to underestimate the seriousness of the situation.
