Jaws
The podcast was created in 2011, when the then management of Radio Wave realized that the station lacked a show that comments on the film and TV scene in its own way.
The original idea was implemented by the then editor Aleš Stuchlý and freelancers Vít Schmarc and Daniel Řehák. The podcast is recorded live and is largely based on improvisation, mixing a punk approach with expert insights and now cult samples; where serious critical analysis meets subversive humour.
During the COVID pandemic, the podcast underwent an organic content transformation, with various bizarre affairs and increasingly-popular streaming platform content becoming some of the topics discussed. At this time, there was also a change in personnel: Dan Řehák left and the central pair of Stuchlý-Schmarc was then supplemented by four alternating guests. After more than eleven years of existence, the podcast’s popularity is still growing - the show has also included live events, screenings, broadcasts from festivals and the video series Čelisti dávají (Jaws Give).
Basic Information
60 minutes of predatory movie hunting: hot news from the cinematic ocean, the week’s main film and the deranged plankton of current events. All this gets stuck in Jaws every week. No half-hearted invitations and recitation of film synopses, but rapacious and indiscriminate criticism, a sarcastic sound collage and a kaleidoscope of perspectives of people who really like film (and are not afraid to talk about it).
Jaws is a show for those who like to discuss films and aren’t afraid of controversy. From blockbusters to niche festival titles, from theatrical distribution to streaming services - it’s all on Jaws’ menu. In a frantic rhythm, they serve up engaging information and verbal pyrotechnics, but above all, material for reflection and polemics. We’re not just here to comfort you and ease your anxiety; we’re here to make you mad!
Jaws live on Radio Wave, every Thursday between 6pm and 7pm. The show is hosted by Aleš Stuchlý, Vít Schmarc and their guests: Kamil Fila, Antonín Tesař, Šárka Gmiterková and Tomáš Stejskal.
