By the end of last year when even Syria joined others in signing the Paris Agreement on Climate Change it left the United States the only openly opposed country planning to withdraw from it altogether. The current American president Donald Trump, in pursuing his policies, gives more weight to the interests of the coal industry than to warnings from international scientists of impacts the global warming is having.
And yet, a tiny American island, Tangier, a hundred-odd kilometres by air from the White House might be one of the first climate casualties.
