The Limits of Violence
The Limits of Violence is a documentary podcast series by Táňa Zabloudilová published on Radio Wave. It tells stories of six young women who have experienced sexual violence in their relationships, committed by their partners or by someone they know. Hence, the podcast focuses on the most common forms of sexual violence.
According to research, in 90% of cases the victim knows the perpetrator. Apart from recapitulating their painful experience, the protagonists also describe the way they coped with and processed their traumas. Their accounts are further commented on by psychotherapeutists who specialize in key issues typical for sexual violence cases and in public awareness and understanding of them.
Each episode features a pair of experts from various fields. Episode with the the greatest emphasis on the female and male roles narrative is commented by sociologists with specialization in gender issues. Another one, in which the protagonist reported the rape to the police, includes opinions of lawyers on what a sexual violence victim has the right to during police interrogations.
The Limits of Violence podcast series has reached (by the PBR submission date) 121,000 downloads. It has sparked debate about recognizing sexual violence, educating the younger generation and about the situation and opportunities to support girls and women to cope with their traumatic experiences.
The podcast series is accompanied by original illustrations inspired by each story by illustrator Nikola Logosová. The music for the series was composed by Monika Omerzu Midriaková.
