Gotťák
Idol, icon, legend. Everybody knows the name Karel Gott. Yet, do we know the real image of the biggest star in the Czech showbusiness? Music journalist Pavel Klusák embarks on the trail of the Golden Nightingale laureate to investigate what the Gott phenomenon actually stands for. In his eight-episode audio series, he strips the singer’s life of rumours and traditional myths and paints a picture of reality which, at times, seems way crazier and more fantastical.
Klusák is being challenged by actress Tereza Dočkalová who represents the younger generation for which the entire Czech-king-of-pop myth is hard to fathom. They piece together his “divine” biography, which unfolds as an adventurous story with a socio-cultural overlap. GOTŤÁK reaches far beyond the usual story of a man’s fate: it is a testament of the times and a complex story of entertainment and pop culture in Czechoslovakia.
