Expecting
The Expecting podcast was created as an accompanying series to the Houpačky (Swings) magazine for parents. It tackles the issue of childbirth in all its subtleties. Seven episodes address shame, pain, and changes in a woman's body and mind, it opens up the topic of the relationship between mothers-to-be and their mothers, and focuses on the "best" advice new mothers are often given from those around them.
The Expecting series are not scared to cover the topic of miscarriage, sex after childbirth, or the psychological disorders sometimes triggered by childbirth. Naturally, giving birth is a borderline experience in all women's lives, and it's fair to talk about the changes it leaves on their bodies and in their minds.
The podcast gives floor to doctors and medical practitioners, psychologist, midwives and doulas, physiotherapists and therapists and of course the mothers themselves. How did they cope with shame, why did the pain take each of them by surprise, and how are they coming to terms with their new bodies?
