The dangerous work in the domestic forests

23. září 2023

More and more forestry workers from Eastern Europe are working in Austria's forests. Due to climate change and increasing economic pressure, this work is becoming increasingly dangerous.

The number of forestry accidents has risen significantly in recent years. Forestry workers from Eastern Europe are particularly affected. In the last four years, 13 workers from Romania have been killed while working in Austria. Austrian authorities have therefore increased inspections and found hundreds of violations of labour law and safety regulations. Christian Bunke, Johannes Greß, Naz Küçüktekin, Christof Mackinger have made inquiries in Austria and Romania.
