This Year’s Drama and Documentary Finalists Chosen

Juries of experts have recently chosen the finalists in the Drama and Documentary categories.

The jury of experts for the Drama category, consisting of Natália Deáková, Ľubica Olšovská and Lenka Havlíková, judged a total of eighteen dramas and selected five of them as finalists. In the Documentary category a total of thirty-three works competed and the jury, consisting of Andrea Slováková, Alena Blažejovská and Štěpán Kubalík, chose eight finalists.

The main selection criteria in Drama included the theme and its development, the dramaturgical plan and work on the text, the director’s conception and work, the actors’ performances, sound design, treatment of music, originality and the general impression of the recorded work.

In the first round the jury judged all duly registered programmes and chose the final ones, whose maximum total length was 264 minutes. The jury of experts, chaired by Natália Deáková, arrived at an unanimous decision and chose the following works as the finalists of the Drama category of Prix Bohemia Radio:

Ursula Le Guin: A Wizard of Earthsea
Ray Bradbury / Hana Roguljič / Renata Venclová: Fahrenheit 451
Ondřej Novotný: The Half-time of the Vertical, or the Temptation of Saint Nobody
Robert Harris: FatherlandPart One
Krok & Petschinka: PepiK Knedlik (Sweet Dreams of Torture)

In Documentary the jury, consisting of Alena Blažejovská, Andrea Slováková and Štěpán Kubalík, chose eight finalists out of thirty three registered programmes.

„The topics range from current social and political problems to biographical sketches to timeless issues of the everyday experience. The most frequent topic is the destiny of the refugees fleeing war-stricken Syria and the related phenomena, such as the increase in racist tendencies across Europe,“ says jury chairwoman Alena Blažejovská.

The winners of the first three places will be chosen by the international jury of experts during the public listening days in Olomouc, i.e. on Monday, 20 March 2017 (Documentary) and on Wednesday, 22 March 2017 (Drama).
