Why is Heaven so Far Away
Daisy Mrázková's books are often said to be small books about big things. They are full of imagination, the joy of play, the desire for knowledge, the importance of friendship and mutual understanding.
Squirrel and Jacíček, Flora the Bear, Little Boy and Distance and many other characters now come to life in the radio fairy tale Why is Heaven So Far Away, written by Matěj Samec to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of this important Czech painter, illustrator and writer. Daisy Mrázková's fairy tales and stories tell of the most ordinary, yet most powerful moments of childhood. About small moments when it suddenly becomes clear that the world around us is huge, terrible as well as beautiful and that when we love someone, everything is different and better, or that some questions have no clear answer.
The characters in her books bounce through the woods together, looking, questioning, pondering, and subtly guiding the reader through the landscape of the first big philosophical questions: What am I and what are you? Can an idea change the world? What does it mean to love?
