A rescue operation is still underway in Velenje following a tragic accident at the local coal mine. One miner has died, while two others remain missing. The incident occurred 500 meters underground in the Preloge shaft – the lowest point in Slovenia.
The Velenje coal mine, with its 50 kilometers of underground tunnels, is the country’s largest construction site. Between 500 and 700 cubic meters of wet clay collapsed into the shaft, making removal efforts extremely challenging. Rescuers continue to work tirelessly to reach the missing men, emphasizing that "hope dies last," according to statements from the mining company.
