Radiant Child
The dazzling and dark story of Marie Curie and radium.
How many female scientists can you name? Even ninety years after her death, Marie Curie remains the first and often the only one who comes to mind. The discovery of radium in 1898 fascinated the world, and Marie, like many others, believed in its immense potential. Radium became a symbol of progress and a byword for quality. However, the initial wonder at this scientific miracle gradually gave way to fear of a silent killer. The creators of this premiere radio play have conceived Marie Curie’s story as an audio fresco chronicling the rise and fall of radium – a substance that radiate, decays, and transforms, just like the people who devoted their lives to it.
