The Report category is now 10 years old. Take a look behind the scenes of the reporters' daily work as it has evolved over time
Capturing a current situation, a problem, or an interesting solution—all with authentic sounds and virtually no studio post-production: that is how a news report is crafted. In a short span of time, the reporter captures the essentials in a nutshell. And we have masters of this craft in our midst. This year, for the tenth time, reporters from Czech Radio News will pit their skills against their international colleagues.
The Reportage category is the only international category in the Prix Bohemia Radio festival competition. It began within the framework of the Visegrád Group (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary) but has since expanded beyond those borders, with reporters from other European public service radio stations regularly submitting entries.
Year after year, contestants, students, and other interested parties listen not only to compelling audio pieces but also to discussions among the jurors and with the creators of the reports.
The audience on site can also join the debate. While the winners are selected by a jury of experienced radio journalists, the student jury’s opinion is also taken into account. The Reportage category is unique among international radio competitions because it is not combined or mixed with other long-form genres, nor does it compete against works heavily edited or produced in a studio setting.
The category offers a behind-the-scenes look at the daily work of reporters bringing back material from the field. In terms of subject matter, the competition has showcased great diversity over the years—ranging from reports on war zones and the refugee crisis to stories about individuals who often remain outside the public eye. Listen to some of them. An interesting selection awaits us this year as well: we will revisit war-torn Ukraine and the Middle East, travel to the ecologically threatened Amazon, and meet a young boy with autism."
