Czech Radio announces the 40th jubilee year of Prix Bohemia Radio
This year's 40th edition of the Prix Bohemia Radio international radio festival, announced by Czech Radio, is open for entries from authors of original audio work and podcasts. Creators can submit their work in one of four categories – Drama, Documentary, News Report and Podcast. The jubilee edition of the festival will take place over five days from 13 to 17 October 2024 in the historic city of Olomouc.
"This year, Czech Radio will hold the 40th edition of its yearly Prix Bohemia Radio Festival. In addition to the best audio work, we want to offer festival goers a richer experience in the accompanying programme and to show them what is new and worthwhile in the field of audio creation. We would like to make the anniversary edition as open to the general public as possible. I think we definitely have lots to look forward to," said René Zavoral, Director General of Czech Radio.
The Drama category is open to original works of drama, audio adaptation or dramatization of up to 60 minutes that were created in the Czech Republic and published by a Czech media outlet between 1 January 2023 and 31 March 2024. Drama entries are open until 30 April 2024 and require an annotation of up to 3,000 characters, a full script and audio.
The Documentary category is open to audio documentaries with a maximum length of 60 minutes, produced in the Czech Republic and published by a Czech media outlet between 1 January 2023 and 31 March 2024. The deadline for submissions in the Documentary category is 30 April 2024.
The Podcast category is open to regular podcasts with a minimum of ten published episodes and podcast series with a minimum of three available episodes published online between 1 January 2023 and 31 March 2024. Podcasts must be in Czech and available in audio for Czech listeners. If the podcast is not freely available at the time of entry, the podcast content must be made available for a specified period of time for the judges' evaluation. There is no limit to the length of the podcasts. Individual episodes of regular podcasts or series cannot be entered. This restriction also applies to individual radio plays, documentaries or reports. Entries are open until 30 April 2024.
The international News Report category is open to news formats of authentic reporter's testimony on important current events given in the form of description, narration, interviews with participants and soundscapes. The reportage must not exceed a maximum length of 10 minutes and must be broadcast by Czech or foreign media in the territory of the producing foreign broadcaster from 1 January 2023 to 30 June 2024. The News Report category will be open for applications longer than the other categories, until 30 June 2024.
Authors can submit their works to the various competition sections via online forms on the Prix Bohemia Radio website until either 30 April or 30 June 2024 (depending on the category), and only to one of the categories. In each category, the Prix Bohemia Radio prize will be awarded to the top three places. The competition entries will be evaluated by an expert jury of five members in each section, whose vote will be held secretly after listening to the competition entries. At the same time, the winner of the Student Prize in each category will be decided by a student jury independently of the final evaluation of the expert jury.
During the festival, the General Director René Zavoral will once again induct a radio personality into the Hall of Fame and the Thalia Award for the best performance in a radio play will also be awarded.
The terms and conditions of the individual competition categories can be found on the festival website.
