A Year of War: From Ukraine to Prague

27. září 2024

On February 24, 2022, the Russian army crossed the Ukrainian border. War had begun, and we launched a special broadcast from Prague. Starring war correspondent Martin Dorazín. At that moment, however, Martin was dealing with a more immediate problem. Was it safe to stay in Mariupol, a city soon to be targeted by Russian aggression?

Martin stayed in a rented apartment, working and living with other colleagues. The windows were reinforced with mattresses. They had water, bulletproof vests, and packed belongings ready. The encirclement of Mariupol was tightening, leaving only one free route under Ukrainian control. Some colleagues wanted to stay. Martin told them: "You have five minutes to pack your things and leave with me." In the end, they all left the apartment. Fortunately, they had enough gasoline, and their chosen route was safe. Shortly after their departure, Mariupol was cut off from communication networks.
